She was the daughter of Sam Shepherd of Faversham and the widow of
William Curteis of Tenterden. Mr Shepherd moved to live at Easwell
House, Tenterden sometime after 1797. [Tenterden Old & New, by J E
Mace, p51]. The 1881 census shows her to be living at Wittersham
Road, Tenterden with her neice, Sophia Shepherd aged 43, as a
'companion'. She died leaving œ2,233. Her will states that she was
living at Chestnut House, Tenterden in 1875. It mentions her sister
Lydia, her godchildren Marian Sarah Shepherd and Sophia Ann Shepherd.
Her son William Curteis, by her first marriage was the sole
executor.
