Narrative
Written on the back of a picture of Newenden Church in the posession of Nancy Gachet and inherited from her Grandfather, Frederick Neve, is 'My Uncle, James Selmes, lived at Lossenham close by. His home was originally a monastry. The first time I ever read a lesson in church was at Newenden. Frederick W Neve.' The 1881 census describes him as living at Lossenham, Newenden, Kent and farming 1225 acres, employing 26 men and 7 boys.
