He acquired the "Old Corner House" Shop in Wittersham in 1808. The previous owner had been a Mrs Sarah Rootes who had purchased the freehold in 1791 from a descendant of Jeremiah Grebell who had been the owner at his death at Rye in 1719. (Bygone Kent p. 629). A Wittersham Monumental Inscription recorded by Leyland L Duncan in July 1923 states : "David Neve died 18 April 1852 aged 71 years. Jane, his second wife died 9 November 1870 aged 75 years. Also of two daughters and one son of above David Neve and Jane his second wife viz. Jane 29 August 1840 aged 18 years. Charles 21 March 1841 aged 3 years. Francis 23 July 1841 aged 13 years."
