He was baptised at St Martin's Church, Birmingham on 14.11.1833. In 1856 he was ordained, curate at St Georges Wolverhampton. In 1857 he became curate at St Gorges, Bloomsbury and in 1865 he was made Rector of St Leonards Church, St Leonards on Sea. From 1877 to 1904 he was Rural Dean of South Lymme and from 1872 to 1906 he was Rector of St Johns, Wittersham. He is buried in a vault beneath the high altar at Wittersham, Kent. Incumbents income at Wittersham was £802 pa in 1883.
He was the author of various papers "Flower Shows of Window Plants for the Working Classes", "Window Gardens for the People", "Clean and Tidy Rooms", "How to Grow a Plant and Win a Prize", and also "Notes Archealogical and Historical about the Ancient Parish and Destroyed Parish Church of St Leonards juxta Hastings 1881".
His will proven by Alice Parkes and Ernest Hadden Parkes, Architect leaving £4,037. 15s. 1d. (1906 page 101 in National Probate Calendar, index card 50/31.)
