He graduated from Lyngby Teachers College in September 1837 with high honors. He was teacher in Honbjerg Herred from 1838 to 1844. From 1844 to 1879 he was principal of Ronnebjer school. He retired on pension in 1879.
He was married to Anne Kirstine Nielsdatter of Granslev, 1843. He had but one eye and was lame. He used a leather shield in front of the poor eye. Both he and wife are buried at Vrejlev Monastery Church, Bourlem County, Vensyssel. The monument on their grave is marked with these beautiful words, “Thanks be to Jesus Christ”. The monument was erected by friends of the family. They had 11 children.
