Narrative
The census returns for 1851 give his occupation as farmer. James and Lydia Neve arrived in Australia on 15 October 1851 aboard the "Earl Gray". With them was their child, Victoria, and, William, her half-brother.
The shipping list stated that William's mother, Rachel, was deceased and his father, James, was aboard. James was 67 years of age and a native of Withyham. His parents were Thomas and Sarah Neve. The parents of Lydia Neve were John Hobbs (deceased) and Sarah Tidness (or Pidness).
