Narrative
Mr H B Neve, 11 Heaton Place, Downer, A.C.T 2602, Australia advises in a letter dated 28 January 1981 that James and Harriet Neve arrived in Australia on the "Roxborough Castle" in 1839. During the gold rush, James, like thousands of others headed south to the goldfields. In the beginning many miners sunk their own shafts. When the big companies moved in, they paid high wages to able-bodied men as miners and also to sklled tradesmen. James Neve is buried in a vault on what was his propoerty at Tumblong. Like many others who bought land he became well-off in old age.
