Obituary : "Claus Neve was born in Freidrichneuland, Germany on January 3, 1852. He was baptized and
confirmed in the Lutheran faith of which he was a member up to the time of his death. In 1871 at the age of nineteen he immigrated to America and settled in Kankakee, Ill. In 1874 he was married to Cecelia Anderson. To this union three children were born: Anna, Peter and Henry. In 1883 his wife died suddenly. On the 6th of September, 1884 he was married to Christine Simonsen. To this union ten children were born: Mrs. Fred Seedorf, Mrs. George Fahs, William, Albert, Louis, Mrs Fred Sauke, George, Mrs. Wm. Westney, Mrs. Walter Hermesdorf, and Lillian. In the year of 1896 he moved to Minnesota settling on a farm 6 miles south of Wells. Five years later he bought the home farm 2 miles southeast of Walters. In March 1914 he retired from farming and moved to Walters. In 1919 he took charge of the village pumping station which position he held until he took sick. He also was janitor for Faith Lutheran church and the school house. He was very active up to the time of his death never complaining of poor health. He will be missed by all those who knew him as he was always ready and glad to give a helping hand and a kind word and smile for all. On Saturday, Nov. 30 he took sick with the flu. Later other complications set in and at 3 o'clock Friday morning, December 13 he went to sleep peacefully. Trusting in God and his Saviour at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 10 days. Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 15 at St. Johns Lutheran church. Interment, Walters cemetery. The flower offerings were many and beautiful. With God's blessing may he rest in peace.
