At the time of his marriage in 1841 he described himself as a clerk and was living at 6, Old Fish Street. By 1857 he was living at 11 (25?) St Mary's Road, Peckham and was a stockbroker. In 1863 he was in Partnership with Henry Druitt with offices at 5 Angel Court, City of London. In 1865 he was a partner in the Stockbrokers Griffith and Burton. By the time the Stock Exchange year book was published in 1875 there was no reference. A 1860 London directory lists R E Griffith as a stockbroker of 23 Token House Yard. An earlier directory (1854) lists him as a stockbroker at 33 Throgmorton Street. He had died by 1881 when the census was taken.
